Teaches on The Shift Network and Insight Timer

Yuval Ron is an Israeli-born composer, oud player and teacher of sacred music, based in Los Angeles. He leads the Yuval Ron Ensemble, which brings together Jewish, Sufi, Christian and Armenian musical traditions, and he has written scores for film, dance and theatre, including the Oscar-winning short West Bank Story. Since 1990, when he composed binaural music for the Monroe Institute, he has worked with neuroscientists, healers and spiritual teachers on music for meditation and wellbeing, and he founded the Metta Mindfulness Music label and the Inspired Sound Initiative, a non-profit offering arts programmes to young people.

His teaching draws on the sacred sound practices of several traditions: Sufi chanting and zikr, Kabbalistic and Hebrew prayer, Nada Yoga, Qi Gong's six healing sounds and Middle Eastern musical modes, alongside research on how sound affects the brain. He has taught at the Esalen Institute since 2009 and lectured at universities such as Yale, MIT, UCLA and Berklee. Divine Attunement: Music as a Path to Wisdom, a book of his with a foreword by Pir Zia Inayat-Khan, tells stories of mystics and musicians from many faiths and won an Indie Book Award in 2015. On The Shift Network he teaches a course on Sufi mystical sound traditions.
