Meditation, subtle energy and modern spirituality are the fields in which Dr. William Bloom, a British author and teacher born in London in 1948, has spent his working life. Early on he wrote novels and worked as a commissioning editor at Macmillan, then lived for two years on an off-grid retreat in Morocco's High Atlas Mountains, an experience recorded in The Sacred Magician. A doctorate in political psychology followed at the LSE, where he taught as well, and he went on to spend a decade teaching adults and teenagers with special needs. At St James's Church, Piccadilly, he co-founded the Alternatives programme; he has taught at the Findhorn Foundation for many years and served at length as a Glastonbury Abbey trustee.
The Spiritual Companions Trust, an educational charity he founded and still leads, created the first vocational qualification in spirituality registered with Ofqual, and today it brings spiritual wellbeing into schools. His approach is practical and gathers from many traditions: a daily meditation practice, work with subtle energy, psychic protection, and a calm, unafraid attitude to death and dying. Translated into sixteen languages, his books include Psychic Protection, The Endorphin Effect, Working With Angels, Fairies and Nature Spirits and a title on the new spirituality. Online, he teaches through The Shift Network and Watkins Wisdom Academy.
