Tuere Sala is a vipassana teacher in Seattle, where she founded the Capitol Hill Meditation Group and serves as one of the guiding teachers of Seattle Insight Meditation Society. She came to teaching after a career as a prosecuting attorney, has practised insight meditation for more than thirty years, and has taught since 2010. She trained in the IMS teacher programme and now also co-chairs the guiding teachers' council at Spirit Rock.
Her focus is lay practice in the thick of ordinary city life rather than in a monastery: helping people set up a daily sitting habit that lasts, and bringing the Dharma into settings where it is rarely heard. Metta and the other heart qualities run through much of her teaching. With Phillip Moffitt as her mentor she took up Nine Bodies Insight, a practice that uses the many dimensions of consciousness as its object, and she is a founding teacher of Dharma Ground, a non-profit that offers online classes and retreats in that method by donation. She teaches daylongs and retreats for IMS in Barre and online, and her talks are widely shared by insight centres across the United States.
