The Brothers Koren are Isaac and Thorald Koren, Australian-born brothers who moved to New York with their mother. For around fifteen years they performed as the band The Kin, earning a gold record and supporting acts including Coldplay, Bon Jovi, P!NK and Rod Stewart. In 2015 they left touring behind to teach, and created The Songwriter's Journey, a small-group programme that guides people with no musical background from a first idea all the way to a finished, recorded song of their own.
They approach the voice as an instrument of the whole body, and singing as a way back to presence, self-expression and belonging. Toning, breath, group singing, improvisation and songwriting are their tools, with the emphasis on play and on being heard rather than on technique. As well as their own online programmes and the Embodied Voice Portal membership, they run weekend workshops at Esalen, a free monthly online gathering called The Choir, and several courses on The Shift Network. They have given a TEDx talk and co-created The Journey, a documentary about the voice.
