Teaches on Commune and The Shift Network

Suzanne Sterling is a singer, ritual leader and voice teacher from the San Francisco Bay Area who has spent more than twenty-five years helping people find and use their own voice. Her roots are in the Reclaiming tradition of earth-based spirituality, where she has led public ritual and trained teachers since 1990, and in yoga, where she has taught on YogaWorks teacher trainings and at gatherings such as Wanderlust, Esalen, Omega and Kripalu. In 2006 she co-founded Off the Mat, Into the World with Seane Corn and Hala Khouri, a project that links yoga practice with community service and leadership.

Her own approach, the Voice of Change Method, brings together singing, breath, movement, storytelling and ritual so that students can speak and sing with more confidence and presence. She offers it through one-to-one mentoring, workshops, talks and retreats, and she also designs ceremonies for weddings, festivals and conferences. Group singing series in Oakland, classes at the Globe Institute in Sausalito and devotional concerts keep her teaching close to live music; she has released five solo albums on labels including Sounds True and White Swan. On Commune she leads the voice and action sessions of the Off the Mat leadership course.
