Steven Webb is a meditation teacher and podcaster from Truro in Cornwall whose work is aimed at people who are sure they cannot meditate. A diving accident in 1991, when he was eighteen, left him paralysed from the chest down, and he speaks openly about the two hard decades that followed before he found Zen in his early forties. He trained in the Mundō Zen lineage of Jun Po Dennis Kelly, and that grounding sits beneath a plain, unpretentious approach he calls Messy Mindfulness.
His practices are short, usually ten to fifteen minutes, and lean on whatever is already there, such as nearby sounds or the feel of the chair, instead of silence or elaborate visualisation. The aim is a different relationship with a busy mind rather than an empty one. He presents two long-running podcasts, the conversational Stillness in the Storms and the guided Inner Peace Meditations, writes a weekly email called Weekly Calm, and offers two audio courses, You Are Not Broken and The Stillness in the Storms Course, on a pay-what-you-can basis. His guided meditations are widely played on Insight Timer. He is also a local councillor in Truro, a former Mayor of the city and an ambassador for Cornwall Air Ambulance.
