Teaches on The Shift Network

Silvia Nakkach, whose spiritual name is Saraswati Devi, is a musician, composer and vocalist with a Grammy nomination to her name. She trained and worked as a music psychotherapist before turning to the voice as a spiritual practice. For around four decades she has studied North Indian classical singing, above all the Dhrupad style of raga. At CIIS, the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, she taught for more than sixteen years and designed a certificate programme in sound, voice and music for the healing arts.

The Vox Mundi Project, which she founded, is an international school of sound and the voice based in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Brazil. Her method, The Yoga of the Voice, combines deep listening, breath, chanting, raga, improvisation and shamanic medicine melodies, and she teaches it through modular certificate trainings, retreats and online courses, among them programmes on The Shift Network. She has released many albums of devotional and ambient music. Free Your Voice, a book written with Valerie Carpenter, gathers more than a hundred vocal exercises for people without musical training.
