Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman Yee are a married couple who have taught yoga together for some two decades from Sag Harbor, New York. Rodney grew up in California, studied philosophy and physical therapy, danced with the Oakland Ballet, then trained in the Iyengar method in the Bay Area and co-founded Piedmont Yoga in 1987; his long run of Gaiam yoga videos, and a 2000 appearance on Oprah, did much to bring yoga into American living rooms. Colleen worked for years as a fashion model, trained with Jivamukti in 1998 and studied shiatsu, and opened Yoga Shanti in Sag Harbor in 1999. Her memoir and practice guide Yoga for Life came out with Simon & Schuster in 2015.
Their shared style rests on Iyengar and Ashtanga roots: careful alignment and sequencing joined with breath work, meditation and philosophy, with a steady interest in why a practice is done as well as how. They lead the Yoga Shanti teacher trainings, which can be followed in person or online, teach regular studio and livestream classes, and run weekend retreats at Kripalu, Menla and Omega, while Colleen also hosts a yearly women's retreat in Mexico. Together with Donna Karan they created the Urban Zen Integrative Therapy programme, and Rodney has co-written two books on practice.
