Teaches on The Shift Network and Insight Timer

Richard Moss is an American teacher of awareness and spiritual awakening who trained as a physician, taking his MD at New York Medical College in 1972 and practising emergency medicine. In 1977 a spontaneous awakening experience led him to leave medical practice; after nearly a year of meditation and study of spiritual and depth-psychological writing, he began teaching what he had come to understand about attention, presence and the habits of mind that keep people from them. For close to fifty years he has led retreats and shorter programmes across the United States, Europe, South America and Australia, and has spoken at Harvard, Stanford and UC Berkeley.

His central method, the Mandala of Being, is a simple map of the four places attention goes when we leave the present moment, used to recognise and step out of self-limiting stories. He draws on Eastern and Western traditions, dreamwork and relationship as a spiritual path, and now works mostly through one-to-one mentoring, regular online satsangs with his wife Katherine, and retreats in North Carolina and France. His books include The Black Butterfly, The I That Is We, The Mandala of Being and Inside-Out Healing, and he teaches on The Shift Network.
