Teaches on The Shift Network and Insight Timer

The shadow side of the psyche is the focus for depth psychologist and writer Melissa Kim Corter. At Pacifica Graduate Institute she earned both a master's degree and a doctorate in depth psychology, specialising in Jungian and archetypal studies; her doctoral thesis looked at psychopathy and the Western shadow. She also trained as a hypnotherapist at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. She is an ordained minister and a certified medicolegal death investigator, and serves on the board of the International Association for Jungian Studies.

In her teaching, fairy tales, myth, film, dreams and journaling become ways to meet the hidden and disowned parts of ourselves instead of turning away from them. Her self-paced programmes cover Jungian shadow work, soulful writing and the dark feminine; she gives private consultations to writers and creatives, and writes The Shadow Psychologist on Substack. Among her books are Apothecary for the Afflicted, a collection of shadow work practices, Esoterica: The Shadow Worker's Codex, and the Wild Woman's book series. Her courses on The Shift Network explore the myths of the dark goddess and the alchemy of fairy tales.
