Teaches on The Shift Network

Theologian and Episcopal priest Matthew Fox is best known for reviving Creation Spirituality, an earth-honouring mystical tradition that draws on the Western mystics, Indigenous wisdom, the arts and modern science. He was a Dominican for 34 years, and in Paris, at the Institut Catholique, he earned a doctorate in the history and theology of spirituality. The Institute in Culture and Creation Spirituality, which he founded, ran first at Mundelein College in Chicago and then at Holy Names University in Oakland; he went on to found the University of Creation Spirituality and served as its president until 2005.

Original Blessing, Creativity, The Coming of the Cosmic Christ and A Spirituality Named Compassion are among his more than 40 books. He has done much to return mystics such as Meister Eckhart, Hildegard of Bingen, Thomas Aquinas and Julian of Norwich to wider reading. The Four Paths of Creation Spirituality give his teaching its shape: awe, letting go, creativity and transformation. He offers recorded and live online courses, several with the cosmologist Brian Thomas Swimme or the writer Mirabai Starr, and the free Daily Meditations with Matthew Fox are written in his tradition.
