Teaches on Insight Meditation Society

Kristina Baré is an insight meditation teacher based in British Columbia whose teaching joins vipassana with the four brahmaviharas, the heart practices of kindness, compassion, gladness at others' joy and equanimity. Her practice rests on two Burmese lines, Mahasi Sayadaw for insight and Pa Auk Sayadaw for concentration. After six months of retreat in 2020 she was invited into a four-year teaching apprenticeship under Marcia Rose, founder of The Mountain Hermitage, with further mentoring from Guy and Sally Armstrong, and completed it in 2024 after assisting at IMS and Spirit Rock.

Earlier in life she practised clinical psychology in Denmark and then worked with couples and families as a therapist in Canada. She no longer practises therapy, but that training gives her teaching a patient, body-aware quality. She leads residential retreats at IMS in Barre, including concentration and month-long Forest Refuge retreats, and teaches with the insight communities in Victoria, Edmonton, Calgary and across BC, where she is also guiding teacher of IslandDhamma, a small retreat group based on Gabriola Island. Students can also meet her online for one-to-one Dhamma mentoring on a dana basis.
