Kim Chandler has run Innerlight Center for Yoga & Meditation on Aquidneck Island in Rhode Island since 1995; the studio began in Newport and now sits in Middletown. Before that she lived as a resident at Kripalu and served as associate director of its yoga teachers' association, and she has now been teaching for over thirty years. Her own practice and teaching rest on classical hatha yoga, breathwork and meditation, including loving-kindness practice, and the studio keeps a donation-based meditation class in the spirit of dana.
Alongside yoga she is a long-standing teacher, and a trainer of facilitators, of Proprioceptive Writing, a contemplative method devised by Linda Trichter Metcalf, with whom she studied closely. The practice uses short timed sessions of writing to music, in which you listen to your thoughts as an inner voice and question them gently. She teaches it at Innerlight, privately by phone and at retreat centres such as Kripalu, often pairing it with gentle yoga. With Janne Roehm she co-directs Innerlight's eleven-month, 200-hour teacher course, and over the years she has trained several hundred yoga teachers.
