Kandō Bion Boncutiu

Kandō Bion Boncutiu, known to most of his students simply as Bion, is an ordained monk and Dharma teacher in the Soto Zen tradition who lives near Madrid. He trained in the line that runs from Dōgen through Gudō Wafu Nishijima to Jundo Cohen Roshi, from whom his Insight Timer profile says he received Dharma transmission in May 2026, and he is a teacher with Treeleaf Zendo, an international Zen community that meets largely online. He teaches in English, Spanish and Romanian.

His teaching rests on shikantaza, or just sitting, read alongside the early Buddhist discourses and Dōgen's writings, and it keeps coming back to one question: how to meet ordinary life with less grasping and more ease. He holds zazen online on several evenings a week, including Dharma Tuesdays, which pairs a sitting period with study, and twice a month he leads open practice at the Unsui Zen space in Madrid, mostly in Spanish. In keeping with monastic custom his teaching is given freely and supported by donations. He writes essays on practice on his Bodhipatha Substack and posts Dharma talks in English and Spanish on YouTube.
