Teaches on The Shift Network

John Lockley is a South African sangoma, a traditional healer and teacher, initiated and ordained in the Xhosa and Swazi traditions. Called by a dream while serving as a conscripted army medic in 1990, he went on to complete a ten-year apprenticeship with a Xhosa elder at a time when it was rare for a white South African to be accepted into the lineage, and was later given the title of senior sangoma by Xhosa elders. He also holds an honours degree in clinical psychology and has practised Zen meditation for more than thirty years.

His teaching centres on Ubuntu, ancestral connection, dream tracking, nature spirits and ceremony, and he often bridges this indigenous worldview with Western psychology. His book Leopard Warrior (Sounds True, 2017) tells the story of his training, and his audio programme The Way of the Leopard sets out meditations and shamanic practices. He leads monthly online ceremonies, workshops in London, Dublin and Geneva, courses with the College of Psychic Studies and The Shift Network, and Dreams & Tracking retreats in Botswana's Kalahari Desert.
