Jeff Warren is a Canadian meditation teacher and writer who began as a journalist, producing radio for CBC programmes such as The Current and Ideas and writing about the science of the mind for magazines and newspapers. His first book, The Head Trip, tours the different states of consciousness a person passes through in a single day and night. He has trained with the American teacher Shinzen Young since 2008, and in 2011 he started the Consciousness Explorers Club, a non-profit meditation community in Toronto that welcomes many styles of practice.
He teaches a small set of attention skills, chiefly concentration, clarity and equanimity, and adapts the technique to each person rather than the other way round. His manner is informal and very funny, and he is open about being neurodivergent himself. With Dan Harris and Carlye Adler he wrote Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics, and many of his guided sessions live on the Calm and Happier apps. Each Sunday evening he hosts The Do Nothing Project, a free livestreamed sit, and he runs Home Base, a low-cost online community on Substack. He also leads retreats at Omega Institute, where he co-hosts the yearly Meditation Party, and at centres in California, North Carolina and British Columbia.
