Dr. James Bae is a Brooklyn-based teacher of Tibetan Buddhist yoga, with a particular focus on the inner yogas of tsalung trulkhor, the movement and breath practices that work with the subtle channels and winds, and tummo, the practice of inner heat. Over some twenty-five years he has received these completion-stage teachings in several Nyingma and Kagyu lineages and is authorised to pass them on, chiefly the Dakini Heart Essence (Khandro Thukthik) cycle of the Dudjom tradition under Dungse Namgay Dawa Rinpoche. He also studied traditional Indian yoga as a young researcher with the scholar Georg Feuerstein, and trained in Chinese, Japanese, Ayurvedic and Tibetan medicine, which he practises separately as a licensed doctor of Chinese medicine.
His teaching ranges from gentle, adapted forms of Tibetan yoga for newcomers to traditional retreat instruction for experienced Vajrayana students, and he leads intensives and retreats in New York, at Buddhist centres and abroad, including pilgrimages to sacred sites in Nepal. On his Buddhist Yoga channel he records conversations with scholars and lamas on dream yoga, tantra and Buddhist healing traditions. He has written or edited a number of books, among them illustrated studies of Hindu sacred art, and is working on a study of contemplative healing.
