Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe

Dr. R. Ibrahim Jaffe, a physician, teaches in the Shadhiliyya Sufi tradition. After taking his medical degree at the University of Illinois he practised in Arizona, Hawaii and California, before turning his work fully to spiritual teaching. In 1996 Sidi Muhammad al-Jamal ar-Rifa'i, a Sufi master, accepted him as a student, and after years of training gave him authorisation (ijaza) to teach, with the title Murshid Murabbi Ruhi, a guide and caretaker of the soul.

In 2000 he founded the Jaffe Institute, which later became the Institute of Spiritual Healing and the University of Sufism, where he is founding Chancellor; through the Ma'rifa Foundation he co-leads the Shadhiliyya Ma'rifa community. He teaches Sufism as a path of divine love, centred on dhikr (remembrance of God), purification of the heart, the Divine Names and the heart's stations, along with APIIR-TB, a method of spiritual inquiry he developed. Online he offers Wisdom Wednesdays, a free weekly teaching series, as well as Friday Jumu'ah teachings and a monthly full moon dhikr. His book is God's Way: Sufi Spiritual Healing, and he is based in the Florida Keys.
