Master Helen Liang

Teaches on The Shift Network

Master Helen Liang has taught Tai Chi, Qigong and the Chinese internal martial arts for more than thirty years. Her training began in China in 1976, and through her father, Grandmaster Shou-Yu Liang, she is a direct inheritor of the Emei Wushu lineage. She serves as vice president of the family's school in Richmond, near Vancouver, Canada (the SYL Wushu Taiji Qigong Institute), and two international Wushu organisations have ranked her at 8th degree.

Her repertoire includes the 24, 13-posture and 8-posture Tai Chi forms, Liu He Ba Fa (Water Style), a flowing internal art, as well as Qigong and a philosophy of the martial arts grounded in Yin and Yang and the Yi Jing. Together with her father she wrote and presented a 130-episode Tai Chi instruction series for Canadian television, and she has produced many teaching videos for YMAA. She is patient and thorough as a teacher, dividing each form into clear stages and paying close attention to alignment, breathing and a calm, focused mind. Classes run at the institute and online, and The Shift Network carries several of her self-paced courses in Tai Chi and Liu He Ba Fa.
