Hawah Kasat (he/him) is a yoga and meditation teacher, author and community organiser with family roots in India, who grew up between New Jersey, Washington, D.C. and long summers in Mumbai. He trained in Sivananda Yoga at Yoga Vidya Gurukul in India and later earned a 300-hour Jivamukti certification; he keeps up a Vipassana practice and also trains in the internal martial arts of Baguazhang and tai chi. For about twenty years he co-led One Common Unity, a Washington nonprofit that brought peace education, mindfulness and the arts into schools, after studying peace and educational philosophy at American University.
His teaching spans pranayama, silent retreats, yoga teacher training and talks on peace and community. At Esalen he leads weekends on the breath and longer retreats built around silence, movement and meditation; at Kripalu, where he is one of the Kripalu Visionaries, he co-leads a 200-hour teacher training for BIPOC practitioners. He also teaches at the Sivananda Ashram in the Bahamas and is a managing partner of Roots to Sky Sanctuary, a 125-acre farm and gathering place near the source of the Potomac. He edited The Poetry of Yoga anthology and hosts the podcast Everlutionary.
