Diane Barnett is a meditation teacher and sound bath practitioner in New Canaan, Connecticut, and the founder of Grounded Meditation. For more than twenty years she worked as a real estate lawyer in New York City, and it was the strain of that career that first led her to sit, breathe and practise yoga. A Cornell graduate who studied law at CUNY, she began teaching yoga and meditation in studios in 2009 and set up Grounded Meditation in 2019, with the aim of making meditation feel simple and welcoming to people who assume it is not for them. She has trained in yoga nidra, sound work, Reiki, EFT tapping, Dancing Mindfulness and forest bathing.
Her classes introduce several approaches side by side, including breath-focused mindfulness, mantra, visualisation and loving-kindness practice, so that newcomers can find the style that suits them, and many sessions end in yoga nidra or a sound bath with crystal and Tibetan bowls, gongs and chimes. She teaches with her colleague Catherine Barrett at venues across Fairfield and Westchester counties, in homes and workplaces, and on Zoom. More recently she has paired mindfulness with mahjong in group retreats, including one at Omega.
