Teaches on Insight Meditation Society

Devin Berry is an Insight Meditation teacher who has practised since 1999 and now serves as one of the Core Guiding Teachers at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts. His grounding is in the early Buddhist teachings, especially vipassana and metta, and he has spent many long stretches in silent retreat. He trained through Spirit Rock's Dedicated Practitioners Program and the IMS teacher training that ran from 2017 to 2021. Before moving to Western Massachusetts he was a core leader of San Francisco's People of Color Insight Sangha and taught at East Bay Meditation Center in Oakland, where he helped start a sangha for teenagers and one for men of colour.

Today he leads residential retreats, daylongs and online gatherings across the United States, including month-long teaching periods at the Forest Refuge and retreats for Black, Indigenous and people of colour. Students describe a warm, down-to-earth style that leans on stories and humour while staying close to the classical path. With Tara Mulay he co-founded Heartstream Sangha, which meets online on the first Sunday of each month. He offers his teaching on a dana basis, writes essays on Substack, and has dozens of recorded talks freely available on Dharma Seed. He has also sat on the board of Insight World Aid.
