Teaches on Omega Institute

Dan Harris is an American writer and meditation advocate who came to the practice from an unlikely place: two decades in television news at ABC, where he reported from conflict zones and co-anchored the weekend edition of Good Morning America. A very public moment of overwhelm on live television sent him looking for ways to steady his mind, and his sceptical investigation of Buddhist meditation became the bestselling memoir 10% Happier. A practical companion, Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics, written with the teacher Jeff Warren, followed.

His approach is plain-spoken and funny, aimed at people who assume meditation is not for them. He presents mindfulness, loving-kindness and open awareness as trainable skills rather than beliefs, and leans on long conversations with experienced teachers from the Insight and Tibetan traditions. He hosts the long-running 10% Happier podcast, leads weekly live sits and question sessions inside his own meditation app, and shares a few free guided practices on his website. At Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York, he co-leads a lively group retreat with Sebene Selassie and Jeff Warren that mixes sitting, movement and a good deal of laughter.
