Commune
Hundreds of thousands of followers: the superstars of the future.OrganisationCommune is an online school for inner and outer wellbeing, run from Topanga in the hills above Los Angeles. Its co-founder and chief executive, Jeff Krasno, earlier helped start the Wanderlust yoga festivals, and Commune grew out of the same idea: bring well-known teachers to people who could never get to them, this time through filmed courses rather than live gatherings.
The catalogue runs to well over a hundred video courses, each made with one teacher or a small group, and is sorted into four strands: Practice (yoga, meditation, breathwork and tapping), Growth (spiritual and personal development), Impact (mindful leadership, regeneration and civic life) and a Health strand. Teachers have included Marianne Williamson, Sadhguru, Byron Katie, Sharon Salzberg, Jack Kornfield and Adriene Mishler. A course can be bought outright, or the whole library opened through a yearly membership that adds daily practices, live member gatherings and a phone app. For deeper study, Communiversity runs five-week trainings in subjects such as qigong, yoga teaching and dharma talks on presence. Krasno also hosts the weekly Commune Podcast, a long-running series of conversations with teachers, thinkers and scientists.
