Teaches on Commune

Dr. Chelsea Jackson Roberts has taught yoga since 2002. Her classes lean towards slow flow and restorative practice, often set to hip-hop, R&B and electronic music, and are built so that people of any body type or experience can take part and feel they belong. She holds a doctorate in educational studies from Emory University, where her research explored how yoga, literacy and storytelling meet, and she uses the term inner literacy for the self-knowledge she encourages through movement, breath, meditation and reflection.

In 2014 she started Yoga, Literature and Art Camp, a summer programme for teenage girls at the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art in Atlanta, and she founded Red Clay Yoga, which trains teachers to share yoga with young people and marginalised communities. She has taught on the faculty of Off the Mat, Into the World and travelled widely as a global yoga ambassador for lululemon. Today she teaches live and on-demand yoga and meditation as a Peloton instructor, speaks at events including TEDxHarlem, and has twice appeared on the cover of Yoga Journal. Her Commune course gives ten short days of gentle yoga, meditation and journaling to help people build a practice at home.
