Aruni Nan Futuronsky began teaching in 1970 and joined the senior faculty of Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in western Massachusetts in 1990, where she is now one of its legacy faculty. Her field is what Kripalu calls Living Yoga, or yoga off the mat: taking the practice of watching oneself without judgement into everyday choices, relationships and setbacks. From 1995 to 2015 she directed the Inner Quest Intensive, the centre's long-running self-discovery programme drawn from the teaching of Swami Kripalu, and she still leads it today. A long personal commitment to a twelve-step programme sits beside her yoga practice, and she sees the two paths as closely parallel.
She also works as a mindfulness coach. In phone sessions clients name the areas where they want to grow, look honestly at what gets in the way and leave with a practical plan, and she offers one-to-one spiritual mentoring and mentoring for people who lead groups. Her teaching leans on humour, gratitude and compassion, with plenty of guided meditation. She has written three books, the spiritual memoir Recovering My Voice, then Not Over Yet and Already Home: Stories of a Seeker, recorded a CD of guided meditations called Life~Works, and sends out a weekly blog and newsletter.
