Dr. Amanda Hanson is a clinical psychologist who has worked with women for close to thirty years and now teaches under the name Midlife Muse. Married with four children, she began by inviting women into her home for evening circles and later took the same conversations online, where she now has a large following. Her starting point is that many women are trained from childhood to put themselves last in order to fit the roles expected of them, and that midlife can be the moment to stop.
She calls her framework the Inner Authority Method. It works with eight feminine archetypes, among them the Sovereign Queen, the Wise Sage, the Erotic Oracle and the Midwife, as an inner council a woman can learn to consult in place of her inner critic, and it blends psychology with ritual and embodiment. She teaches through her 2025 book Muse, her podcast, Things Your Mother Never Told You, an online membership with monthly live calls, a six-month mastermind, live weekend events and a South Florida retreat for mothers and daughters that she leads with her daughter Ava. At Kripalu she leads a weekend on the archetypal stages of a woman's life.
