Alexis Cohen

Alexis Cohen is an American visionary artist, shamanic practitioner and film producer, and the founder of Art Medicine, a creative path that treats painting as a form of prayer and a doorway to Spirit. Before turning to art full time she worked for ten years as a birth doula, attending around 300 births, and she draws on that experience of holding space through big transitions in her teaching. Art Medicine began in 2016, when painting a large mural of a Goddess during a period of upheaval in her own life opened what she describes as an inner channel of listening.

She teaches intuitive painting, which she calls portal painting, combined with guided meditation, shamanic journeying and ritual. Her self-paced journeys and workshops work with themes such as light codes, the elements, spirit allies and abundance, and she runs the Art Medicine Practitioner Certification for artists and healers who want to guide others. She also co-leads a creative-project accelerator with her husband, the writer and director Brent Bishop, with whom she is producing a feature film. She has spoken on many online summits and podcasts and offers a free eleven-day practice called Painted Prayer.
